This was said today during @ElonMusk's testimony at the OpenAI trial today. Elon Musk argued OpenAI was founded as a nonprofit, open-source counterweight to Google, focused on AI safety and benefiting humanity. He claimed OpenAI abandoned that mission by shifting toward a for-profit structure. Elon warned the case could set a dangerous precedent, saying it could give others "license to loot every charity in America" and "it is not OK to steal a charity." He also said AI could surpass human intelligence as soon as next year, making control of the technology extremely important. Sources: @SawyerMerritt, NYTimes for the reporting and quotes.

According to a report by the WSJ, a crypto venture tied to men sanctioned in a major US scam-ring crackdown partnered with a Trump-linked firm weeks after the charges were announced. In October, the Justice Department and Treasury sanctioned more than 140 people and entities connected to the Prince Group, which US officials say ran large online fraud networks in Asia. The alleged operations included "pig butchering" scams from compounds in Cambodia. Less than a month later, World Liberty Financial, a Trump family-linked crypto company, announced a partnership with virtual-currency venture AB. One of AB's projects, a planned blockchain-themed resort in East Timor, had been led by two men sanctioned for alleged ties to the Prince Group.
